What makes Namaste Journeys unique?

Namaste Journeys is a boutique tour operator that specialises in responsible tourism ventures in the magical Kingdom of Nepal. Our team is made up of both western and local experts who have lived and travelled extensively throughout this beautiful country. We believe that the only way to truly experience a destination is through culturally immersive, grassroots experiences and we can’t wait to share Nepal with you!

Not only will you bear witness to Nepal’s most iconic sights and enchanting landscapes, but you’ll also support local communities and sustainable travel initiatives. Step into a Nepalese kitchen to try your hand at making mouth-watering momo dumplings, discover the eye-opening beliefs and traditions of Buddhism whilst staying at a Tibetan monastery and connect with local students and teachers whilst volunteering at a Kathmandu school.

Namaste Journeys is not your typical tourism experience, but an opportunity to connect with people directly and give back on a journey you’ll never forget. 5% of all trip costs go directly to supporting our school, helping to purchase much needed educational supplies, sporting equipment and meet monthly rental payments. There are few organisations where you can see first-hand where your funds are going and meet those whose lives you’re impacting.

Come with us on this life-changing journey to discover what makes Nepal such a captivating destination and will tempt you to return again and again.

Is this tour right for me?

We want you to enjoy an authentic Nepalese experience in a comfortable environment, therefore with this in mind we will stay in one place for 2-3 nights and use this as a base to set out each day to explore the local area. Whilst our program has been designed mainly with the active traveller in mind, our intention is to offer a slower paced itinerary allowing the magic of Nepal’s sights, tastes and charms to wash over you. There will be ample opportunities for you to immerse yourself into the lives of the local Nepali people. You will get the chance to stay overnight in a Buddhist Monastery guesthouse and volunteer at a local school in Kathmandu, but also enjoy plenty of time to sip on a yummy cup of chai and wander the vibrant streets of Thamel, ensuring a complete cultural experience.

How many people will there be on my journey?

In keeping with our desire to provide you with an authentic experience, you will be sharing your journey with no more than 12 other travellers.

Is there single accommodation available?

Single accommodation is available on request subject to availability and a single supplement is charged. The single rate is based on the extra costs incurred by Namaste Journeys for single room occupancy and is regrettably unavoidable. PLEASE NOTE that a person who is travelling alone and elects to share with another traveller will only be charged the twin share rate. If this person subsequently cancels their booking for whatever reason or where there is no other traveller to share with, a single supplement will be charged.

How much walking will be involved and how fit do I need to be?

As impressive as it will be to trek the Himalayas there will be no trekking on this journey. Most days however will involve some level of walking to explore some of Nepal’s incredible temples, markets and laneways. To fully enjoy these excursions and to get the most from this journey you should be reasonably fit and be able to walk up and down hilly terrain, including steps, easily. There will be optional longer walks available, however these are optional so come if you feel like it or relax if you don’t!

Can Namaste Journeys help with flights?

Flight arrangements are your own responsibility however our preferred partner Travel Focus Group will ensure you get the best deal. Your journey will commence and conclude in Kathmandu (KTM).

Do I need a visa?

Yes. A tourist visa is required for Australian passport holders to Nepal. You can choose to get this prior to arriving into the country or on arrival into Kathmandu airport.

If you are travelling on a different passport please check whether a visa will be required.

When should I purchase travel insurance?

We strongly recommend that you arrange your travel insurance before or soon after paying your tour deposit and finalising your airfares. Please check with your travel agent regarding coverage and prices. A copy of your policy will be required to be sighted by your Namaste Journey travel advisor prior to leaving Australia.

How will I get to the hotel from the airport?

You will be met on arrival by a Namaste Journey guide who will then take you to your hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu.

What if we want to stay extra nights at the hotel?

We can help you add pre or post accommodation to your journey- No problems!

What methods of transport will we use?

To give you an authentic Nepalese experience we will use local transport such as rickshaws, walking and old bicycles around Kathmandu, Pokhara and Royal Chitwan National Park.
Although travelling on a local bus for 6- 8hrs sounds like an adventure, it can often be very long, tiring and uncomfortable. For this reason we have chosen to add 2 domestic flights into our itineraries or alternatively travel long distances in a private vehicle, giving us the flexibility to stop at the sights we want to and none of the ones we don’t.

How much luggage can I take?

We cannot stress enough the advantage of travelling as light as possible with small luggage. This is particularly helpful when you need to carry your own luggage up a flight or two of stairs to get to your room in your hotel. Also, as we are travelling long distances in a minivan luggage space will be limited.

Please also note that there is a maximum 20kg checked in luggage limit on all domestic flights.

We will provide help with luggage where we can and can also offer suggestions on packing if required.

What type of accommodation will we be staying in?

We have personally handpicked a range of traditional accommodation styles with the main aim of locating good quality establishments in convenient locations. Each reflecting a distinctive character or historic flavour. These include charming Nepalese owned boutique hotels, a few nights in a rustic jungle lodge and an overnight stay in a Buddhist monastery.

Please note that our jungle lodge in Chitwan National Park and our guesthouse at the Buddhist Monastery are both a little more rustic than our accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara- however this is part of their charm.

Is the itinerary likely to change?

Whilst we endeavour to operate all journeys as described, Nepal does not run like clockwork, this is part of her charm, so nothing is ever 100% for certain. With this in mind, changes to the itinerary may be required either prior or during the trip, even at last minute, due to a range of unforeseen circumstances such as altered transport schedules, access to walking paths/attractions, weather conditions etc. Therefore the need to be flexible and to maintain a sense of adventure and an upbeat attitude is a must- this is an adventure journey after all.

Please also note that Nepal’s infrastructure is still returning to normal after the 2015 earthquake, so some destruction is still visible. Being open-minded and embracing your sense of adventure will go a long way toward your enjoyment of this beautiful country.

What about special dietary needs?

Nepal caters for most dietary requirements. Please let your travel advisor know when booking your journey.

How much money should I take?

The last thing we want is for you to constantly have to put your hands in your pockets. The beauty of a Namaste Journey is that we try to include as much as possible. All entrance fees are included along with most meals as per itinerary. To allow for any optional activities, drinks and of course shopping! We believe a budget of AUD$50 would be more than ample.

How do I book?

Ready to be part of something special?
To confirm your journey we require a non-refundable deposit of AUD$250 per person. If your booking is made within 60 days of the departure date then the full amount is payable at the time of booking.

We can’t wait for you to join us on what truly is a life-changing journey!
